Easy Ways To Save On Travel

Travel is a fantastic hobby, but it can soon get expensive. Flights, hotels, activities; it all adds up fast. If you like to travel a lot, you’ll soon learn some of the best tricks to help you have fantastic adventures without breaking the bank. Here’s how to save without giving up travel.

Try something different.

Classic trips are usually the most expensive, as there’s a lot of costs involved. You can sometimes save money by trying something a little different to what you might usually do, and still have a great time. Book an Airbnb instead of a hotel. Book a cycling holiday with happycyclingholidays.com for a new way to explore an area. Camp. Go backpacking. Visit somewhere not on the main tourist trail.

Before you go anywhere or book anything, do your research first. This is especially smart if you’re going somewhere known to be expensive, like Amsterdam. Research can show you the best times of year to travel, cheaper areas to stay in, deals on flights, offers at hotels, and other clever ways to save some money.

Travel at off-peak times.

If you don’t have children, you can save a lot of money if you don’t travel during school holidays. If you can even slightly outside of the peak tourist season, prices for most things will be lower and everywhere will be quieter too, so you can have a better time.

Don’t stay in the city centre.

If you’re right on top of the tourist attractions, you’re going to pay a lot more for a much smaller room. Instead, book a hotel or apartment just outside of the city centre. You can still easily see everything during the day, then at night, you can go back somewhere cheaper, and usually much quieter too.

Pack smart.

If you can, don’t back a suitcase that needs to be checked and only travel with carry-on luggage. Save space by packing light layers, wearing your heaviest items, and buying mini toiletries when you arrive. Checked luggage can be very expensive, especially if you go over the weight limit. As an added bonus, you can also get out of the airport quicker if you don’t have to wait for a suitcase at baggage claim. Instead, you can get straight to exploring!

Look out for free wifi.

We all want to keep social media up to date while we’re away, but instead of hammering your data, keep an eye out for and take advantage of free wifi. Your hotel probably has it, and local cafes and bars will too. If you really need to get online, there’s always McDonald’s too.

Eat like a local.

Save money and have a more authentic experience at the same time. Look for where the locals are eating. Visit street food stalls, food markets, and neighbourhood eateries to get the best food for the best prices. This can be a really fun way to experience the local cuisine and try new foods without blowing your budget.
